Canada is home to a plethora of universities offering all sorts of educational courses and an exciting social and extra-curricular life to go with them. However, the more the merrier is not exactly the case here because the huge number of universities makes it all the more harder to decide on where you want to spend the best years of your life at. We at MKTlist love making things easier for you, so here is a list of Canada’s top universities (in no particular order) for international students!
1. University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
Manitoba’s largest and oldest university, it offers a staggering 90 courses to choose from. The province of Manitoba is known for its scenic landscapes. The university is the go-to choice for you if you’re a nature buff. Studying here might give you the opportunity to witness rare species like Beluga Whales. However, the institute is quite far from notable Canadian places, which is perhaps the only downfall studying here has.
University of Toronto a little too much for your budget? Go check out York University, which falls behind UoT only in size. The on-campus activities and social hubs make up for the lack of nearby urban attractions since it is in northwest Toronto, quite a ways from Downtown Toronto. The university offers all sorts of educational programs, such as integrated science and disaster management, and an extremely competent faculty to go along with them.
3. University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Ontario)
Located 90 minutes from Toronto, the University of Waterloo is well known for its cross-disciplinary courses such as nanotechnology engineering and advanced integration. Aspiring entrepreneurs are welcome at the university’s Velocity Garage, a startup incubator which is home to more than 80 tech-based business startups.
4. Simon Fraser University (Burnaby, British Columbia)
Simon Fraser University has lately started to rise in popularity, with many international students considering SFU as their first preference. The University’s Burnaby campus is surrounded by majestic mountains. SFU’s educational programs have something for everyone. From advanced environmental courses for nature lovers to mechatronics for technology enthusiasts, SFU has it all. SFU is also well known for its dynamic social life going hand in hand with the local community.
5. University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta)
Home to international students from almost 150 countries, UoA is located in cold northern Canada. Don’t worry though, the reasonable tuition fees will make you forget all about the frosty winters. The attracting factor about UoA though is the vast research opportunities you are exposed to while enrolled here. The world famous West Edmonton Mall is an added bonus of studying here.
6. University of Calgary (Calgary, Alberta)
Located in one of Canada’s most culturally diverse and clean cities, the UoC lets you pick from over 100 courses. Apart from academics, UoC is well known as the first choice university for aspiring athletes. With ski slopes only a 2-hour ride from campus, your weekends will never be boring.
